Sankri Village: A Gateway To Mighty Treks

A village in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, where the mountains are untouched by pollution and chaos. Sankri resembles an ebbed but tempestuous river. The Population, practicing an elementary lifestyle without a considerable degree of connection with the world beyond the hamlet, regulates a fundamental market. Amidst this sedimentary life format, there are shops offering professional trekking gear as the village is a gateway to mighty treks in the Himalayas. Depicting outlandish characteristics, there is a cafe located just 500 metres from the village, which offers sublime food and a Table tennis table. Table tennis and an astounding view of Garhwal Himalayas, Sankri is fascinating.

sankri village night life

The village is a paradise for trekkers. Har Ki doon trek begins its mighty ascent from here. A majestic view of the valley is just a glance away. Colours switch between palettes in the sky. Sankri offers a distant view of the hills that await you. The houses are coloured in smooth pastel shades with a minimalistic architectural approach. The Garhwali population of the village welcomes the trekkers with all the love in the world. Amidst this pace of adventure enthusiasts, the village temple is a resemblance of peace.

Sankri is a land of believers. People there believe that achievements and accomplishments are materialistic possessions. The temple proves this fact. One can see a beautiful display of shields, trophies and, medals on the front door of the temple. The locals believe that every instance of success in their lives is carved by their god, Mahadeva. Giving away their awards to the temple is a way of expressing their gratitude towards the deity. The religious place gets its aesthetic from beautifully structured wooden patterns on the external walls. A touch of snow on this wooden masterpiece resembles a catchy design. Sankri offers a clear view of the Swargarohini peak. The religious significance of the mountain dates back to the era of Mahabharata. Despite the fact of being a trekking hub, the hamlet holds a very low level of connectivity with the world. One can observe a few groups of people playing board games on the quiet market streets. The locals follow a conventional way of living through the day. No mobile networks, no internet. Sankri pulls you out of the virtual world.

In winters, the sun sets around 17:00. The sky unfolds its colours as the sun goes down. Distant campfires from the mighty hills are visible from the hamlet. The clouds start to fade apart to reveal a night full of stars. One can identify constellations that were long lost in science textbooks. Away from the facade of city lights, Sankri amplifies the beauty of the night sky. An acclimatization walk through the village is a perfect start for a long trekking adventure.

The sunrise marks the beginning of your Himalayan trek. You gradually gain altitude and move away from the beautiful hamlet. However, the memories of the place hold a deep impact on your trekking experience. Sankri lets you believe in yourself. The scenic beauty of the village tells you that the mountains are welcoming you, to experience something that stays with you for life.
