The lake is situated on the east side of the Rohtang Pass and it is about 6 KM from the Gulaba village. Bhrigu Lake is known for its mesmerising beauty and on top of that, it is also famous among followers of Hinduism for its connection to mythology. It is said to be the place of meditation of Sage Bhrigu who visited the lake thousands of years ago after failing to commit suicide in a river. - How to reach Manali to Join for Bhrigu lake: Start, a day before, from Kashmiri Gate Bus station at Delhi at 6-7 p.m. It takes somewhere around 14-15 hours to reach Manali from Delhi, considering the traffic hinderance as well. The bus will drop you at Manali somewhere around 10:00 a.m.

Bhrigu Lake History/Myth:
As we said, the Bhrigu Lake is sacred to the followers of Hinduism as it is tied to their mythology. It is believed that Maharishi Bhrigu, one of the Saptarishis, who journeyed to the Himalayan region and settled near the oval lake to perform meditation. The locals believe that the lake doesn’t ever freeze completely because Bhrigu meditated over there. Before going to lake Bhrigu had tried to commit suicide in the river but he was prevented by the Mother River. This myth is often linked to the formation of the ice rings of emerald green and blue on the lake.
Apart from Sage Bhrigu, it is also believed that a lot of the Himalayan rishis and devtas bathed at this heavenly location. For this reason, it is popularly known as the 'pool of Gods'
How to reach Bhrigu Lake?
Delhi to Manali:
The first part of your journey will be dedicated to reaching Manali which is the starting point of the journey to Bhrigu Lake. There are several ways through which one can reach Delhi to Manali. The fastest way will be to book a ticket to the Kullu-Manali airport from Delhi and the journey lasts for about 1.5 hours.
Apart from that one can also book a bus from Delhi to Manali. They can either opt for the government-run buses of HRTC or HPDTC or they can choose the private buses that ply between the routes. The journey will take them about 14 hours, so night buses are the best options.
Another common way to reach Manali from Delhi is via train. The nearest railway station to Manali is Pathankot from Delhi. One can reach Pathankot from Delhi via a train. From there one has the option to reach Manali either via a car or they can also take a hill train to Joginder Nagar from Pathankot and a car to Manali. If someone is interested in a road trip, they can take their private car or book a cab to reach Manali and the journey should last for about 12 to 13 hours.
Bhrigu lake Itinerary-
Manali to Gulaba to Rola Kholi:
In this part of the journey, you will need to drive from Manali to the village of Gulaba which is a journey of about 22 KM and takes about 2 hours. After reaching Gulaba you will need to trek for about 3 KM to reach the Gulaba Meadows Camp which works as the basecamp for the Bhrigu Lake trek. The trek lasts for about 1.5 hours to 2 hours. The trail has a steep ascent, so one needs to be careful and have Trek essentials. Your Trek Guide/Leader will be with you during the trek and the journey. After lunch, you will need to trek to Rola Kholi from the basecamp through a trek that lasts for about 6 KM and it takes approximately 4 hours because of the steep terrain. The first 1.5 hours of trek will be quite difficult till you pass Kolang Nallah to reach the campsite. Here you will need to stay in tents before you start trekking the next day.
Rola Kholi to Bhrigu Lake to Rola Kholi:
Camping by the Bhrigu Lake is not allowed, so on this day, you will need to trek 10 KM in total which will approximately last for about 8-9 hours. The 5 KM trek up to the lake is quite steep, so you will need to be careful as it will also have snow. Take help from your Trek Guide/Leader whenever you need it even after the low difficulty level.
Best time to visit Bhrigu Lake
The Bhrigu Lake Trek can be visited during the summer and autumn months and the trek is closed off during the winters because of the harsh temperature conditioners. Generally, people prefer to visit the trek between the months of May to October, which is also regarded as the best time to embark on the trek. People will be able to experience snow almost throughout the year and in the summertime, they can also see the newly blossoming flowers beside the lake. Try to avoid the months of July and August as they see heavy rainfall which leads to bad landslides.
So, we will recommend you to take the Bhrigu Lake trek either in the month of May or in June to get the best experience. This is also the best season to visit as you can see the greenery of the nearby valleys. You can also go on to visit the Spiti valley after you have completed this trek.
Bhrigu Lake Weather and Temperature:
When you are about to go on a trek it is quite important to know about the different temperature conditions that prevail in the trek throughout the year. As we have said already, the trek is closed during the winter months as it can get to sub-zero temperatures which can even reach -20 degrees Celsius during the night. So, the trekkers who are interested in going on the Bhrigu Lake trek can avail it during the months of May to October.
April, May to June: These are the summer months in the Bhrigu Lake trek, so you will get pleasant weather conditions during this time. You will be able to experience snow but you will also notice that the greenery is peaking as the snow melts. During the daytime, you can expect temperatures to be between 15 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius and at night the temperature can be anything between 8 degrees to 10 degrees Celsius. So, pack your woollens and other clothes accordingly.
July, August, September: The torrential downpours continue till the middle of September, which makes it a not so great time to go on the trek. The temperature during daytime is between 10 degrees to 20 degrees Celsius and at night it can drop to 5 degrees to 8 degrees Celsius.
September to October: These months are the autumn season and trekkers can visit during this time. It is getting chilly, so they should pack quite well to beat the cold. During the daytime, they can expect the temperatures to be between 10 degrees to 15 degrees Celsius and at night the temperature is between 4 degrees to 6 degrees Celsius. This is also the time when the visitors can see the lake turn white. Another great thing is that you will be able to see a clear sky full of stars from your campsite when you are on the trek.
